Music | Recommendations: King Charles

King Charles, born Charles Costa on 6 May, 1988 is an independent singer-songwriter from West London. In 2009 King Charles released his debut EP to critical acclaim. As he was writing the album he had an almost fatal accident that dramatically halted the process. A few months later, and whilst he was still in recovery, he was invited to support Mumford & Sons in America, an offer he couldn't refuse. King Charles then became the first and only British artist to win the International Songwriting Contest in Nashville and was signed on the spot by Universal Republic in America. He then returned home to continue what was in total an 18-month recovery and he finished writing and recording his debut album in his bedroom. He then put the final touches to it in Los Angeles. The album draws down influences from Afro-beat, rock and roll, glam, folk, hip-hop and country; they are songs with spirit in their belly.
